My Boudoir Editing Style – Why You’ll Still Look Like You

One of the biggest worries women have before booking a boudoir session is, “Will you edit me until I don’t look like myself?” It’s a fair question. We’ve all seen those overly airbrushed images where skin looks like plastic, bodies look stretched into cartoon proportions, and you can’t tell if the woman is real or a computer render. That is not my style. My approach to editing is light, natural, and respectful. I want you to see your photos and say, “That’s me – only better rested and with great lighting.”

The Goal of Editing in Boudoir

Editing is not about changing you. It’s about enhancing what’s already there and removing distractions that don’t belong. Think of it like putting on a little makeup before an event. Makeup doesn’t change your face – it just evens out your skin, hides the random blemish, and makes you look polished. My editing works the same way. It’s there to refine the image, not reinvent you.

What I Edit

There are a few things I will always edit out because they’re temporary and don’t represent who you are. Blemishes, bruises, scratches, and even uneven fake tan – gone. I also even out skin tones because sometimes lighting can exaggerate shadows or redness. If your makeup smudged or your lipstick bled a little, I’ll fix that too. Flyaway hairs that catch the light and distract from your face? Those get tidied up. These little tweaks don’t change you – they just remove the things that don’t need to be there.

What I Don’t Edit

Here’s what I don’t do: I don’t shrink bodies, inflate cleavage, erase laugh lines, or completely smooth away skin texture. Your stretch marks, freckles, scars, and lines are part of who you are. They tell your story. I’m not in the business of erasing your story – I’m in the business of showing you how beautiful it already is. If I edited you into a stranger, what’s the point? You deserve to look at your photos and recognise yourself, not wonder who that woman is.

Why Clients Appreciate This Style

I can’t tell you how many times women have told me they were terrified they’d look fake in their boudoir photos. And then they see their gallery and say, “This looks like me – only confident and glowing.” That’s exactly what I want. Even partners notice. I’ve had husbands tell me they preferred the unedited previews because they loved seeing their wives exactly as they are. (Don’t worry, I still edit – but it says a lot about how powerful authenticity really is.)

The Balance Between Polished and Authentic

Boudoir editing is about finding the sweet spot. On one side, you don’t want to look overly retouched. On the other, you want professional-quality images that look refined and intentional. My job is to land right in the middle. I polish your photos so they’re the best version of you, but I never strip away the details that make you unique. It’s a balance I take seriously because these aren’t just pretty pictures – they’re portraits of you.

Real Women, Real Results

Let me give you an example. A client once came in with a bruise on her leg from bumping into a coffee table. She was worried it would ruin the images. In the final gallery, the bruise was gone, but everything else about her was untouched. Another client asked if I would edit out her freckles, and I said no – because her freckles are beautiful. She ended up loving how they looked in the photos. That’s the point. Editing is about clearing away the noise so you can see yourself clearly.

Why This Matters

Boudoir is about confidence, and confidence can’t be faked with Photoshop. If you saw overly retouched images of yourself, you might look “perfect,” but you wouldn’t feel powerful because deep down you’d know it wasn’t real. By keeping the editing light and authentic, you get to experience the best part of boudoir – recognising your own beauty. When you look at those photos years from now, you’ll remember the experience, the laughter, and the way you felt, not a version of yourself that never existed.

Final Thoughts

My editing style is simple: I polish, but I don’t erase. I refine, but I don’t transform. You’ll look like yourself, only with a little extra glow and the kind of confidence that jumps off the page. Boudoir is not about becoming someone else – it’s about seeing yourself exactly as you are, and finally realising that’s more than enough.
