The number one reason women put off a boudoir shoot (and why it’s holding you back)

The sentence I hear most: “I’ll book after I lose weight.” My reply: “Then I’ll see you in 2043.”

Let’s be real. Women have been taught to put conditions on everything. “I’ll wear that dress when I’m smaller.” “I’ll go on that trip when I’m fitter.” And when it comes to boudoir? “I’ll book when I lose ten kilos.” The problem is, that day never comes. Life gets busy, the goalpost keeps moving, and before you know it, you’re five birthdays down the line and still waiting for the “perfect” moment.

Here’s the thing: there is no perfect moment. If you wait until you feel completely ready, you’ll wait forever. Confidence isn’t something you magically wake up with after reaching a number on a scale. It’s something you build — and boudoir is one of the best ways to do exactly that.

I’ve photographed women who walked in hating photos of themselves. They didn’t like their arms, or their tummy, or their thighs. They were convinced they’d feel awkward the entire time. By the end of the session, they weren’t just comfortable — they were glowing. They saw themselves in a way they hadn’t in years, sometimes ever. And almost every one of them said, “Why on earth did I wait so long?”

Waiting doesn’t protect you from discomfort. It just delays the chance to feel incredible. And honestly, the parts of yourself you think you need to “fix” are often the very parts you end up loving in photos. The curves, the softness, the laugh lines — they’re the things that make you look like you.

So if you’ve been telling yourself, “one day,” take this as your reminder that one day is actually right now. You don’t need to shrink, change, or perfect yourself first. You just need to show up. The best time is now, not “one day.”
